This is a “Doryanthes excelsa”, commonly known as the gymea lily. In winter the flower spike grows from the centre of the rosette until it is up to 6 metres high.

Found this when hubby and I walked around the Cranbourne Botanic Gardens. Will be posting what I saw in the gardens soon!
